Since last year, LG Electronics has developed and provided dedicated Braille stickers for about 20 products free of charge. This time, the company has standardized one type of Braille sticker that can be attached to all products. Home appliances have different button shapes and positions depending on the product, and recently, many products feature flat touch control panels, making it difficult for customers with visual impairments to use them easily.
The universal Braille sticker developed by LG Electronics includes 10 easily recognizable icons such as power, start and stop, Wi-Fi, remote control, and up and down arrows, along with Braille and guidelines. Users can identify the embossed icons or Braille with their fingertips and follow the guidelines to touch and activate the desired function.
The Braille literacy rate among visually impaired people in Korea is about 5%. LG Electronics designed more intuitive icons alongside Braille to help more low-vision customers easily utilize the Braille stickers. Through this, the universal Braille stickers can be used not only in Korea but also by low-vision customers worldwide.
Any customer using LG Electronics home appliances can request the universal Braille stickers by contacting the LG Electronics Customer Center or the Korea Disabled Consumers Union. Starting from the end of December, customers who purchase or use LG home appliances at LG Best Shop stores nationwide can receive the universal Braille stickers directly on-site upon request.
