According to the county on the 1st, following the early July session, a petition review was held again after four months, with about 300 attendees including County Governor Shim Min, heads of departments and offices, town and township chiefs, and petitioners, to hold a moment of silence and mourning for the victims of the Itaewon accident.
They pledged that all employees would take the lead in emphasizing the importance of disaster prevention and preparedness, as well as strengthening on-site inspections.
Before his address, Governor Shim said, “I express my deep condolences to those who lost their lives in the unexpected accident that occurred last weekend in Itaewon, Seoul, and offer my sympathies to the bereaved families,” adding, “I wish a speedy recovery to those injured.”
He continued, “I urge a comprehensive review of disaster prevention and preparedness measures for incidents like the Itaewon accident and the 4.1 magnitude earthquake in Goesan County,” and added, “Please respond with heightened vigilance more than ever.”
Furthermore, he emphasized, “We must strengthen surveillance activities to ensure that not a single safety accident occurs,” and “Please take thorough measures to prevent poor construction or safety accidents caused by excessive construction during the upcoming severe cold season.”
Regarding the Itaewon accident, the county decided to foster a mourning atmosphere shared by all residents during the national mourning period until the 5th, cancel internal events and workshops as much as possible, and reduce unnecessary events, conducting them solemnly and frugally.
Additionally, safety management measures have been further strengthened, and a joint on-site accident response system is being established with safety-related agencies such as the police and fire departments.
They also plan to enhance prevention of winter safety accidents, spring wildfire prevention, completion of various project orders, and strengthen on-site administration during the harvest season.
The county intends to make efforts to ensure no communication gaps with residents in the agricultural policy field by strengthening on-site administration during the harvest season and preparing support measures centered on farmers.
