Suncheon City Hosts 'UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - Global Geopark Youth Forum'
Participation of 19-34-Year-Old Youth Interested in Biosphere Reserves and Geoparks
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu) announced that it will hold the 'UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - Global Geopark Youth Forum' from the 1st to the 4th of next month in Suncheon and the Mudeungsan Geopark area to raise awareness and interest among youth about international protected areas and to promote youth activities for nature conservation and sustainable development.
This event is jointly hosted by Suncheon City, the UNESCO Korea Committee, the MAB (Man and the Biosphere Programme) Korea Committee, and the National Geopark Office. It will be attended by young people aged 19 to 34 from across the country who are interested in biosphere reserves, geoparks, and related topics.
The forum will include ▲ an introduction to UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and Global Geoparks ▲ presentations and discussions on activity cases within biosphere reserves and global geoparks ▲ and field visits to learn about biosphere reserves and global geoparks while exploring ways for youth participation.
The city plans to share its experiences in protecting and conserving Suncheon Bay Wetland, the success story of ecotourism through these efforts, and the sustainable development model presented by the creation of the National Garden.
A Suncheon City official stated, “We will do our best to develop various heritage travel programs related to UNESCO international protected areas such as the World Natural Heritage Suncheon Bay and biosphere reserves to invigorate the local economy.”
