[Itaewon Disaster] Jo Gyu-hong: "Itaewon casualties distributed across 59 hospitals... Seoul City and Ministry of Health to support the deceased"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong announced that the deceased and injured from the large-scale crush accident that occurred on the 29th in Itaewon, Seoul, have been distributed across 59 hospitals, and that plans are in place to support funerals in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and others.
Minister Cho made these remarks on the 30th during an emergency briefing on current issues held at the Government Seoul Office regarding hospital bed allocation and funeral support.
Minister Cho stated, "Currently, the injured and deceased are being distributed across 59 hospitals in the metropolitan area," and added, "For the injured, we plan to provide close support in cooperation with public officials, local governments, and the Korean Medical Association as per the President's instructions."
Regarding support for the deceased who are distributed and placed in 42 funeral homes, he explained, "Currently, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has formed teams of two people to provide support," and "The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Funeral Culture Promotion Institute are also providing support to ensure that assistance proceeds without any issues."
According to the fire authorities, as of 10 a.m. on the day, the funeral homes where the deceased from this accident are placed include Gangnam Severance Hospital, Gangdong Kyung Hee University Hospital, Gangdong Seongsim Hospital, Gangbuk Samsung Hospital, Konkuk University Hospital, National Medical Center, Nowon Eulji University Hospital, Boramae Hospital, Bucheon St. Mary's Hospital, Samsung Medical Center Seoul Hospital, Samyook Seoul Hospital, Sanggye Paik Hospital, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, Seongnam Central Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital, Soonchunhyang Bucheon Hospital, Soonchunhyang Seoul Hospital, Shilnakwon Gyeonggi Funeral Home, Anyang Saem Hospital, Yangju Yes Hospital, Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital, Yongin Severance Funeral Home, Uijeongbu Paik Hospital, Uijeongbu St. Mary's Hospital, Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital, Uijeongbu Medical Center, Ewha Mokdong Hospital, Ewha Seoul Hospital, Ilsan Dongguk University Hospital, Ilsan Hospital, Pyeongtaek Jeil Funeral Home, Hallym University Seongsim Hospital, Hyemin Hospital, Korea Hospital, Korea University Anam Hospital, Korea University Guro Hospital, Kyung Hee University Hospital, Seoul National University Hospital, Sinchon Severance Hospital, and Hanyang University Hospital.
Earlier, Minister Cho visited the Itaewon accident site around 1:30 a.m. on the same day and also visited the Central Emergency Situation Room (Central Emergency Medical Center) within the National Medical Center to check on support for selecting transport hospitals and the dispatch of the Regional Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT).

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that, in response to the accident early that morning, a total of 15 DMATs from 14 disaster base hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi, as well as the Seoul and Gyeonggi Emergency Medical Support Centers, were dispatched.
