[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed condolences for the victims of the Halloween festival tragedy that occurred in the early hours of the weekend (30th) and announced that, following an emergency safety inspection within the province, additional safety patrols will be conducted.
Governor Kim stated through social media (SNS) in the early morning of the 30th, "There are continuing reports of tragic festival accidents in the early hours of the weekend," adding, "Gyeonggi Province has dispatched 49 ambulances and 98 personnel to respond to casualties resulting from this festival accident."
He continued, "To assess the damage on site, we have urgently dispatched two team leaders from the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters and are providing maximum support without hesitation," and added, "Furthermore, we have conducted an emergency safety inspection of the expected Halloween event areas within the province and confirmed no abnormalities, and additional safety patrols are also underway."
Moreover, he said, "The situation is urgent," promising, "We will continue to closely monitor the situation and cooperate closely with the control tower to support all available resources."
He especially expressed deep condolences for the unfortunate victims and wished for the swift resolution of this accident.
On the same day at 9 a.m., Governor Kim visited the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters situation room for an emergency inspection of the Halloween festival within the province.

Meanwhile, near Itaewon Station in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, just before midnight on the 29th, a large number of casualties presumed to be due to crushing occurred. According to the Yongsan Fire Station, around 10:15 p.m. that night, a large crowd gathered in an alley near Hamilton Hotel by Itaewon Station on Seoul Subway Line 6, and as of 6 a.m. on the 30th, 149 people were confirmed dead and about 76 injured. The number of deaths and injuries is expected to rise as the police and fire authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
