View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] Pohang City will temporarily reopen the (old) Suhyup Samgeori section, where traffic had been restricted since April last year for the installation of a bridge as part of the ‘Haksancheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project,’ starting this November.
With the temporary reopening on November 1, left turns will be possible from the (old) Suhyup Samgeori towards the Lotte Department Store intersection, and left and right turns as well as U-turns will be allowed from the Lotte Department Store intersection towards Dongbin Inner Port.
The area in front of the (old) Suhyup, where construction is still ongoing, is where the water flows of Dongbin Inner Port and Haksancheon meet. Until now, the waterway and schools of fish hidden beneath the concrete culvert can now be directly observed. The bridge in front of the Jungang-dong Administrative Welfare Center is planned to be completed by the end of this year.
The ‘Haksancheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project’ is a project running from 2021 to the end of 2023, investing 40.4 billion KRW to demolish the 900m-long and 23m-wide covered road section from Uhyun-dong Cheolgil Forest to Jungang-dong Administrative Welfare Center to Dongbin Inner Port and restore it as an ecological stream.
The city plans to improve citizens’ quality of life by removing existing covered structures through the Haksancheon restoration project, restoring the health of the aquatic ecosystem, providing a nature-friendly urban resting place, and creating a waterfront park.
