LG Electronics Anticipates Synergy in Robot Manufacturing Capabilities

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Hanwha Group's AI computer vision semiconductor specialist company, VisioNexT, announced on the 28th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LG Electronics to develop next-generation robot solutions.
The two companies signed the MOU on the 27th at LG Electronics Magok Science Park in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, to develop video solutions optimized for robots and strengthen AI solution competitiveness. Present at the site were Woo Jeongho, CEO of VisioNexT, and Noh Gyuchan, head of LG Electronics' robot business division.
The cameras installed on robots provide object recognition and notification functions through AI video analysis. This can be utilized in various service fields such as detecting dangerous situations, patrolling, guiding paths, logistics delivery, and caring for socially vulnerable groups.
Through this MOU, the two companies agreed to cooperate to discover new business opportunities in the service robot sector and develop next-generation robots using AI video solutions. They also plan to establish a research and development cooperation system to maximize synergy.
VisioNexT possesses core competencies related to AI video solutions, including ▲image signal processing (ISP) ▲AI processors and neural processing units (NPU) ▲cameras. LG Electronics has advanced robot manufacturing capabilities such as ▲autonomous driving ▲sensors ▲automation ▲artificial intelligence, and has already entered the service robot market with the ‘CLOi’ series.
Woo Jeongho, CEO of VisioNexT, said, "Through collaboration with LG Electronics, we plan to strengthen our capabilities in the service robot field and lay the foundation for securing the robot market, a future growth engine, by utilizing VisioNexT’s advanced video solutions and AI competitiveness. We expect to discover various business opportunities by implementing AI functions optimized for robots such as object recognition, detection, and classification."
Noh Gyuchan, head of LG Electronics' robot business division, said, "With the expansion of the service robot market, we hope customers in various industries will experience optimized robot solutions."
