View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Korea University Guro Hospital announced on the 27th that Professor Kim Woo-joo of the Department of Infectious Diseases was inaugurated as the president at the '2022 Korean Society of Internal Medicine Autumn Academic Conference' held at the Grand Hilton Hotel in Seoul on the 22nd and 23rd. His term is one year starting from the 24th of this month.
Founded in 1945, the Korean Society of Internal Medicine is the largest academic society in Korea with over 20,000 members. It has played a leading role in public promotion and policy establishment related to improving public health through the development of internal medicine and academic advancement.
Newly appointed President Kim Woo-joo stated, "I will work hard to help the Korean Society of Internal Medicine develop more firmly with the new chairman and executive team," adding, "I will contribute to enhancing public health by strengthening the capabilities of internists who play a key role in the medical response to the COVID-19 pandemic."

Professor Kim graduated from Korea University College of Medicine and obtained his master's and doctoral degrees from the same graduate school. He has served as the chairman of the Korean Society of Infectious Diseases, president of the Korean Society for Zoonoses, co-chairman of the public-private joint committee for MERS response, immediate response team leader, and special advisor to the Prime Minister. Currently, he is the president of the Korean Society of Vaccinology and the director of the Vaccine Innovation Center at Korea University College of Medicine, the only private vaccine development center in Korea.
