[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced on the 26th that it has been selected for the ‘2023 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project’ organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for the third consecutive year, securing 2.1 billion KRW in national and city funds.
The Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project is a program that supports part of the installation costs of renewable energy such as solar power and solar heat in areas where houses, public, and commercial buildings are mixed, to increase energy self-sufficiency.
Accordingly, since May, Buk-gu formed a consortium with six specialized equipment companies and prepared for the public contest by conducting demand surveys and recruiting candidates. As a result, the project’s feasibility was recognized in the Korea Energy Agency’s public evaluation and in-depth evaluation.
With this selection, Buk-gu plans to invest about 3 billion KRW in total project costs next year to install solar power at 306 locations and solar heat at 2 locations in urban areas such as Yongbong-dong, Unam 1, 2, and 3-dong, Dongnim-dong, and Ochi 1 and 2-dong on houses and buildings.
Director Moon In said, “Carbon neutrality and responding to the environmental crisis are global challenges,” adding, “Being selected for the public contest for three consecutive years will spread the grassroots energy self-sufficiency foundation at the village level and serve as a catalyst for creating a low-carbon green growth city.”
Meanwhile, through the public contest, Buk-gu completed the installation of renewable energy facilities at 482 locations in the outskirts of the city last year, and from this year, it is expanding to urban areas, with installations at 403 locations progressing smoothly.
