Seoul Fire Department Conducts Unannounced 'Emergency Rescue Control Team' Activation Drill... Simultaneous Multiple Damage Scenarios Assumed
From the 18th, the Fire Disaster Headquarters and 25 Fire Stations Participate... Emergency Alerts and Control Teams Activated
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 26th that it conducted an unannounced emergency rescue control team drill to activate a rapid disaster response system, assuming a surge in 119 emergency calls and simultaneous multiple damage situations.
This drill was conducted from the 18th with the participation of the Fire and Disaster Headquarters and 25 fire stations across Seoul, aiming to strengthen the response system for large-scale fires involving multiple resources or natural disasters occurring simultaneously across several regions.
The drill proceeded in four stages, assuming simultaneous multiple damage situations. The stages included ▲wide-area response level 1 emergency alert ▲activation of simplified emergency rescue control teams and situation rooms at each fire station ▲operation of the sector command headquarters situation room ▲assignment of unexpected situations and evaluation.
In particular, this drill focused on effectively operating dispatch teams and enhancing the situation management capabilities of the headquarters and fire stations in preparation for large-scale fires requiring the mobilization of multiple fire stations ahead of the winter season.
Additionally, obstacles such as fire truck dispatch hindrance due to road closures, large-scale power outages, and shortage of dispatch resources were assigned as unexpected situations, and measures to address these were evaluated to increase the drill's effectiveness.
Based on the results of this drill, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters plans to identify areas for improvement and link them with the maintenance of an integrated situation management system, comprehensive emergency rescue drills, and a certification system for on-site commanders, aiming to advance the disaster response system.
