Korean Press Foundation to Hold 'Current Status and Improvement Plans of Media Ethics Code' on the 26th
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] The Korea Press Foundation will hold a seminar titled "Current Status and Improvement Measures of the Code of Ethics for the Press" on the 26th from 10:30 AM at the International Conference Hall on the 20th floor of the Korea Press Center.
The seminar was prepared to create a public forum related to media trust and reporting ethics (16.1%), which accounted for the largest portion among over 60 proposals received through the Foundation's "Seminar and Forum Topic Public Suggestions (22.9.12~9.15)." It will examine the current status of the code of ethics among domestic media companies and journalists' perceptions of it, and discuss ways to improve the code of ethics for the press.
First, Professor So-Young Cho from the Graduate School of Law at Pusan National University will present on "The Current Status and Content of Media Companies' Codes of Ethics," addressing the status of ethical codes by media company. Following this, Adjunct Professor Young-Hee Lee from the Department of Media Communication at Hanyang University will present on "Journalists' Perceptions of the Code of Ethics for the Press."
The seminar discussants are composed of individuals active in academia, the media, and civil society who have worked to practice media ethics. Professor Kyo-Tae Koo from the Department of Media and Visual Studies at Keimyung University, who conducted the study "The Current Status of Domestic Media Companies' Code of Ethics Establishment and Its Impact on Reporting," and Yeo-Jin Yoon, Executive Director of the Media Human Rights Center, who has been active in the Media Ethics Charter Practice Council, will participate in the discussion.
In particular, Kwon Tae-Ho, head of the Journalism Accountability Office, a dedicated organization for reporting guidelines at Hankyoreh (newspaper), Min Su-Mi, a reporter at Cookie News who proposed the desk real-name system (internet newspaper), and Lim Ju-Hyun, a KBS reporter active in fact-checking and media criticism (broadcasting), will represent their respective media outlets and share vivid stories on the current status and improvement measures of the code of ethics as experienced on site. The chairperson will be Professor Young-Wook Kim from the Graduate School of Future Strategy at KAIST.
