The 2024-2025 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival to Be Held in Paju
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will host the 2024 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival and the Disabled Sports Festival, as well as the 2025 Gyeonggi-do Sports for All Festival and the Disabled Sports for All Festival in Paju City.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it held a meeting of the Gyeonggi-do Sports Promotion Council and unanimously confirmed Paju City as the host city for the comprehensive sports festivals in 2024 and 2025.
This decision follows the change from the "single-year simultaneous hosting method," where all comprehensive sports festivals were held in one host city per year since 2017, to the "biennial dispersed hosting method" starting in 2023.
Earlier, the province announced a call for bids over three weeks in July, and Paju City submitted a sole application for hosting.
Paju City was confirmed as the host for the "2021 Gyeonggi-do Comprehensive Sports Festival" in 2019, but the event was canceled due to COVID-19.
The province formed an on-site inspection team led by Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member Lee Kyung-hye of the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee, which visited Paju Stadium on the 6th of last month to evaluate Paju’s administrative and financial infrastructure, including stadium and facility operations, transportation, accommodation, budget, and volunteer recruitment.
The inspection team judged that Paju City, with its 500,000 residents, public institutions, and related organizations, has a strong desire to host the festival, and that the experience gained and facilities and infrastructure established in preparation for the 2021 event are well-equipped to successfully host the 2024-2025 festivals.
