Democratic Party: "Yoon Must Respond to Accepting 'Daejang-dong Special Prosecutor' by the 25th Before Policy Speech"
Opposition: "Preparing Daejang-dong Special Prosecutor Bill During Recess... Government and Ruling Party Should Immediately Accept Daejang-dong Special Prosecutor If They Are Confident"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea has demanded that President Yoon Suk-yeol respond to Representative Lee Jae-myung's proposal for a 'Daejang-dong special prosecution' by the 25th, before the National Assembly's policy speech.
On the 23rd, Cho Jung-sik, Secretary-General of the Democratic Party, held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "The Yoon Suk-yeol administration must immediately stop its low-level fabricated investigations and oppression of the opposition," adding, "We hope for a clear response regarding the Daejang-dong special prosecution proposal before the policy speech on the 25th."
He stated, "Regarding the Daejang-dong special prosecution, the party and the floor are preparing to propose a special prosecution bill," emphasizing, "We plan to prepare the special prosecution bill within this week and will continue to request this from the People Power Party."
Regarding the prosecution's acceleration of investigations into allegations of preferential treatment in the Daejang-dong development and illegal election fund acceptance, including the detention of Kim Yong, Deputy Director of the Democratic Research Institute, Cho said, "The investigation that started with Hwacheon Daeyu construction corruption and the 5 billion Club has deteriorated into a Daejang-dong preferential corruption case and has now absurdly transformed into illegal election funds," adding, "They have been thoroughly investigating for a year to reveal Representative Lee Jae-myung's involvement, but since nothing has come out, they illogically jumped to election funds. Their intention is to enjoy a year of benefit from Daejang-dong and then another year from election funds."
He said, "If the president and the ruling party are confident, they should immediately accept the Daejang-dong special prosecution," and added, "All suspicions should be neatly resolved, and the opposition and ruling party should work together and focus on the people's livelihood."
He also warned, "Although they may temporarily maintain power through security governance, they can never regain the hearts of the people who have turned away," emphasizing, "If they do not stop prosecutorial dictatorship and security governance, they will face serious national resistance."

Regarding former Democratic Party Supreme Council member Kim Hae-young's public demand for Representative Lee Jae-myung's resignation, Cho said, "There can be various opinions within the party," but added, "Since what the other side (government and ruling party) ultimately aims for is the destruction and division of the opposition, I believe now is the time for everyone to unite and fight together against prosecutorial dictatorship and the new security regime to overcome this."
