Fire at Geoje Prisoner of War Camp Monorail... Boarding Station Completely Burned, Fire Spread to Vehicles Destroying 13 Cars
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] A fire broke out at the monorail facility within the Prisoner of War Camp Park in Geoje, Gyeongnam, causing property damage by burning the boarding station, vehicles, and buildings.
The Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters announced that a fire occurred at around 12:20 a.m. on the 23rd at the monorail facility inside the Prisoner of War Camp Historic Park in Gohyeon-dong, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam.
According to the fire authorities, the monorail operation had ended at the time of the fire, and a passerby saw the flames and reported it to 119.
The fire was extinguished by the dispatched fire brigade in about an hour, but it burned the entire 350㎡ building of the monorail boarding and alighting station and 13 out of 15 monorail vehicles.
Part of the movie theater building, measuring 20㎡, also caught fire, resulting in an estimated property damage of 147 million KRW according to the fire station.
The historic park has been temporarily closed since the morning of the same day.

The police and fire authorities believe the fire started in the monorail boarding and alighting station building, have secured CCTV footage from the station, and plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and request a fire analysis from the National Forensic Service.
