Imsil-gun to Open Suspension Bridge and Bungeo Island Ecological Park on the 22nd

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, will temporarily open the Bungeo Island Ecological Park, beautifully landscaped with trees and flowers for all four seasons, along with the opening of the Okjeongho Suspension Bridge on the 22nd, and begin a pilot operation.

According to the county on the 20th, Bungeo Island, located in Okjeongho, became an island when the Seomgang Dam was completed in 1965 and the water rose. It was a mysterious island accessible only by boat.

Bungeo Island, which could only be admired from afar by viewing from Guksabong Observatory and taking photos, now has a path opened to directly enter by crossing the suspension bridge.

This island, called Bungeo Island because it floats in the shape of a crucian carp on the lake, was like a barren land left lonely like an uninhabited island untouched by human footsteps.

However, Bungeo Island has been transformed into a splendid four-season tourist park thanks to Imsil-gun’s Seomjin River Renaissance Project.

The county completed the Okjeongho Suspension Bridge through eco-friendly development and created Bungeo Island as an ecological park to showcase the mysterious island of Bungeo Island to many tourists.

The Bungeo Island Ecological Park was developed as a forest bathing area covering 73,039㎡ by preserving and utilizing the existing ecosystem on Bungeo Island to the maximum extent, additionally planting various herbaceous plants and landscaping trees suitable for the growth environment of each area within Bungeo Island, and installing convenience facilities for tourists to comfortably view.

Many tourists can now easily walk across the suspension bridge and enter on foot to enjoy the Bungeo Island Ecological Park.

Currently, following the recent great success of the Imsil N Cheese Festival, Bungeo Island has been decorated to fully enjoy chrysanthemums, the representative flower of autumn.

The county plans to transform Bungeo Island into a place of vibrant colors in spring with azaleas and tulips, and into a water-colored Bungeo Island in summer with hydrangeas and crape myrtles, like putting on new clothes each season.

Shim Min, the county governor, said, “With chrysanthemums and Korean asters blooming brilliantly on Bungeo Island, it is so beautiful that even I am amazed, and it will impress many tourists,” adding, “Starting with the opening of the suspension bridge and Bungeo Island Ecological Park, we will tirelessly strive to make Okjeongho a representative tourist attraction of Jeonbuk and a nationwide tourist destination.”
