H5 Avian Influenza Antigen Detected in Migratory Bird Droppings from Jeonbuk and Baengnyeongdo
Jungsubon Urges Compliance with Quarantine Rules
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The 'Central High Pathogenic AI Response Headquarters' announced on the 15th that H5 subtype avian influenza (AI) antigens were detected in wild bird droppings collected from Dongjin River in Jeongeup-si, Jeonbuk, and Baengnyeong Lake in Baengnyeongdo, Ongjin-gun, Incheon. This is the first confirmed case of highly pathogenic AI in wild birds in about seven months since March 24.
It is expected to take three to five days to confirm whether the detected antigen is highly pathogenic. Since a mandarin duck captured in Bonggangcheon, Cheonan-si, Chungnam on the 10th was confirmed to have H5N1 highly pathogenic AI, concerns are growing that AI could spread nationwide.
