Gangjin Gaudo, Reborn as a Night Tourism Attraction
Installation of Landscape Lighting on Gaudo Dullegil, Gaining Attention as a Great Spot for Photography
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] On the 12th, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has installed nighttime landscape lighting along the Gaudo Dullegil trail, a representative tourist destination.
Gaudo has become a representative tourist spot in Gangjin, attracting a cumulative total of 3.78 million visitors so far, but visits were mainly during the daytime, with fewer visitors at night.
The county plans to transform Gaudo into a nighttime tourist attraction by installing various landscape lights along the Gaudo Dullegil trail and small parks, turning it from a place where tourists just stop by into a place where they stay longer.
The newly installed landscape lighting includes firefly lights, floor lights, bulbs, flower-shaped lights, and tree-shaped lights, offering new enjoyment to tourists visiting Gaudo. The landscape lighting installed on the suspension bridge opened last year and two nearby small parks is expected to become a popular spot for couples to take photos.
Along with the new landscape lighting installation, the county plans to conduct a comprehensive maintenance of the existing lights to ensure that nighttime visitors do not experience any inconvenience.
Kim Hak-dong, Director of the Culture and Tourism Office, said, “Although many tourists visit Gaudo, visits are still mainly during the daytime. We plan to continuously secure nighttime tourism content in line with the 7th Gangjin Bay Reed Festival.” He added, “We will strive to enhance Gaudo’s unique charm so that many tourists can visit even at night.”
Meanwhile, Gaudo is the only inhabited island among the eight islands belonging to Gangjin, and its shape resembles a cow’s muzzle, hence the name Gaudo. Since 2017, it has been selected four times as one of Korea’s top 100 representative tourist destinations, and was also chosen as one of the 33 islands to visit in 2021 by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Visitors can enjoy marine leisure activities such as zip tracks and jet boats. Last September, the opening of a suspension bridge and monorail provided new attractions, showing the potential for development as a representative tourist destination not only in Gangjin but across Korea.
