Now in its 13th year, this contest is held annually by soliciting photos featuring railroads in different seasons and selecting outstanding works.
This year’s grand prize went to Yu Young-bok’s ‘Snowstorm Blowing.’ This work is praised for realistically capturing the dynamic movement of the KTX-Eum speeding through the snow near Pyeongchang Station on the KTX Gangneung Line.
The silver prize was jointly awarded to Byun Yang-ok’s ‘Silver Grass Field Mugunghwa’ capturing the Mugunghwa train passing against the backdrop of sunrise and silver grass fields on the Donghae Nambu Line, and Lee Chang-yong’s ‘The End and Beginning of a Journey’ which conveys the excitement of a night train trip on the platform at Busan Station.
KORAIL awards 2 million won to the grand prize winner, 1 million won to the silver prize winners, totaling 13 million won in prize money. Additionally, six major awardees receive commendations from the President of Korea Railroad.
A total of 910 works were submitted to the contest, and KORAIL formed an external judging panel to evaluate the entries.
