Gochang-gun Selected for 2023 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, has been selected for the 'Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project' for two consecutive years.

According to the county on the 13th, the 'Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project,' led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and implemented by the Korea Energy Agency, will invest a total project cost of 3.1 billion KRW (1.5 billion KRW national funds, 1.2 billion KRW county funds, 400 million KRW self-contribution, etc.).

In 2022, the project is being carried out with a budget of 2.8 billion KRW in Gochang-eup, Gosu-myeon, Sinrim-myeon, and Heungdeok-myeon.

For next year's project, a total of 348 sites have been confirmed for renewable energy facilities installation, including 309 solar power sites, 26 solar thermal sites, and 13 geothermal sites in houses and buildings in Gosu-myeon, Asan-myeon, Seongsong-myeon, Seongnae-myeon, and Buan-myeon.

Earlier, to apply for the project contest, the county formed a consortium with specialized renewable energy equipment companies starting in March.

Afterward, they surveyed demand and prepared for the application evaluation, resulting in selection for the convergence project.

The county plans to expand the distribution of renewable energy throughout the entire county through additional contests for the convergence support project as an annual project until 2025.

Lee Young-yoon, the county's New Vitality Economic Policy Officer, said, "Through the renewable energy project, we can take a step closer to the carbon neutrality goal, and the renewable energy project is highly effective for residents, such as reducing electricity bills. We will continue to strive to widely distribute safe and clean renewable energy for the benefit of residents."
