[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun's representative tourist destination, Juknokwon, ranked first in navigation search volume among major tourist sites in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.
According to the county on the 11th, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute analyzed the navigation search volume trends for tourist sites in Gwangju and Jeonnam from January 2018 to July this year, based on the Korea Tourism Organization's 'Regional Tourist Site Search Rankings' data, and found that Damyang's Juknokwon emerged as the top tourist destination.
Over the past 4 years and 6 months, Juknokwon ranked first 19 times in cumulative monthly highest search counts, securing the top spot, while Yeosu Odongdo and Suncheonman National Garden ranked second and third with 10 and 9 times respectively.
Opened in 2005, Juknokwon is a bamboo garden created by Damyang-gun around Seonginsan Mountain, consisting of a dense bamboo forest and a poetic cultural village showcasing Damyang's pavilion culture, the cradle of classical Korean literature, within an area of approximately 310,000㎡.
Juknokwon features a total of 2.2 km of walking trails where visitors can enjoy "jukrim-yok" (bamboo forest bathing) in the bamboo forest filled with phytoncides, which have sterilizing effects, strengthen the immune system, relieve stress, stabilize the mind, and induce deep sleep.
In addition, it is equipped with observatories, rest areas, pavilions, various sculptures, filming locations for movies and commercials, and diverse ecological and cultural tourism facilities, making it a representative tourist destination in Jeollanam-do visited by more than 600,000 people annually.
Furthermore, after Suncheonman Garden was registered as Jeollanam-do's first provincial garden, Juknokwon became the second to be registered as a provincial garden, and nationwide it is the fourth following Suncheonman National Garden, Ulsan Taehwagang National Garden, and Gyeonggi Semiwon.
