20s Woman Suspected of Abandoning Infant's Body in Department Store Restroom Arrested
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] A woman in her 20s who abandoned the body of a newborn baby in a women's restroom at a department store in Busan has been arrested by the police.
Busanjin Police Station announced on the 7th that they apprehended a woman in her 20s, identified as A, at her residence in Gijang-gun around 8 p.m. on the 6th.
According to the police, around 10 a.m. on the 6th, a cleaning worker found a shopping bag under the sink in the women's restroom on the basement first floor of a department store in Busanjin-gu and placed it outside the restroom, thinking it was trash.
Later, at 1:07 p.m., a waste collection worker, while sorting recyclable waste, looked inside the shopping bag and discovered the body of an infant, then reported it to the police.
The police conducted an investigation based on CCTV analysis and fingerprints on the paper bag, and arrested the prime suspect, A, at her home seven hours after the incident.
The police conducted an initial investigation with A under voluntary accompaniment and have currently allowed her to return home.

A police official stated, “We are conducting an autopsy on the infant's body to determine whether A had a stillbirth or gave birth and caused the infant's death, and are confirming the applicable charges.
