Gokseong-gun, Operation of the 2022 Youth Participatory Budgeting System

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] The Jeonnam Gokseong-gun Future Education Foundation announced that on the 1st, it co-hosted the 2022 Gokseong-gun Youth Participatory Budgeting with the Jeollanam-do Gokseong Office of Education, Gokseong Youth Culture House, and Okgwa Youth Culture House at the Gokseong County Council.
This event proceeded with a report on the progress related to youth learning rights proposed through last year's Youth Policy Proposal Contest and the announcement of the 2022 Youth Participatory Budgeting.
The ‘Youth Participatory Budgeting’ is a system where youth directly propose matters they consider essential within the local community from their perspective, aimed at guaranteeing youth rights and expanding participation opportunities. It was operated in connection with student councils of local high schools.
For the evaluation of the Youth Participatory Budgeting, evaluators included Yoon Young-gyu, Chairman of the Gokseong County Council; Kim Hong-sun, Vice Chairman; Kang Deok-gu, Council Member; Heo Chae-hyung, Council Member; Kim Eul-nam, Council Member; Jo Dae-hyun, Council Member; Kim Yo-sun, Council Member; seven members of the Gokseong Youth Council; and two youth experts. They conducted a fair assessment in four categories: necessity, creativity, efficiency and expected effects, teamwork, and presentation persuasiveness.
Yoon Young-gyu, Chairman of the Gokseong County Council, who participated in the Youth Participatory Budgeting review, said, “The Youth Participatory Budgeting is a democratic system operated with youth directly proposing policies, which makes it more meaningful and significant.” He added, “I hope the students make excellent proposals for youth and lead positive outcomes that can have a good influence.”
