Yongin City to Begin Rabies Vaccinations from Next Month 1st
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, will conduct the '2022 Second Half Rabies Vaccination' for 6,410 pet dogs aged over 3 months raised within the city from the 1st to the 31st of next month.
Rabies is a zoonotic infectious disease that can be transmitted to animals or humans through bites or scratches from animals carrying the rabies virus. It is classified as hydrophobia when it occurs in humans and rabies when it occurs in animals.
If a person is infected, neurological symptoms and encephalitis cause central nervous system lesions, which can be fatal. In dogs, symptoms such as anxiety, excitement, abnormal behavior, and increased aggression appear, followed by clinical signs like drooling, difficulty swallowing, muscle spasms, and abnormal vocalizations lasting 3 to 7 days, with most dying within 10 days.
This vaccination will be conducted through both on-site vaccinations at animal hospitals and mobile vaccinations where city veterinarians visit areas where it is difficult to visit.
For on-site vaccination, guardians can bring their pet dogs to one of the 81 designated animal hospitals within the city and receive the vaccination. A fee of 10,000 KRW, including vaccination and consultation fees, is required.
In some areas where contact with wild animals is a concern or where visiting animal hospitals is difficult, such as rural areas, four city-employed veterinarians will visit. If you bring your pet dog to the designated vaccination location on the specified date, you can receive the vaccination free of charge.
Since the animal registration system is in effect, vaccination will be administered after confirming whether the animal is registered. Pet dogs that are not registered must be registered first.
The city plans to guide pet dogs raised in densely populated areas or mountainous areas where contact with wild animals is possible to ensure they receive the vaccination during this period.
Information on animal hospitals where vaccination is available and mobile vaccination areas can be found in the notices/announcements section on the city’s website.
