On the 26th, Professor Baek Dohyun of Changwon National University, a member of the Water Purification Facility Investigation Committee, stated, “After meetings and on-site investigations from the 24th until today, we concluded that the larvae did not originate from the production process at Daesan Water Purification Plant, the distribution reservoir, or the pipes supplying water to consumers.”
According to the city, the committee held the first meeting and on-site investigation on the 24th and a second meeting in the afternoon of the same day, investigating ▲ the water purification production and supply process at Daesan Water Purification Plant ▲ the inflow and outflow points of the Buk-myeon distribution reservoir ▲ and the stages prior to water entering the Gamgye Welfare Center, including the tap water inflow section.
Professor Baek said, “The investigation results conducted alongside the first and second meetings confirmed that no larvae were found at the water purification plant, distribution reservoir, welfare center, or nearby fire hydrants at consumer sites,” adding, “We confirmed that there is no problem in the tap water production and supply process.”
He also mentioned, “An epidemiological investigation conducted on the 23rd by the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office and the Water Supply Support Center, with officials from Gyeongnam Province and Changwon City present, also found no larvae in the water purification production and supply system,” suggesting the possibility that adult insects entered through the swimming pool window screens or holes at the top of the water level control tank.
The investigation committee recommended ▲ continuous monitoring of the water purification plant, distribution reservoir, and faucets until the situation normalizes ▲ a full inspection of all swimming pools in Changwon City ▲ and regular larvae inspections at swimming pools.
The city stated that the cause of larvae occurrence in the welfare center swimming pool will be identified by a dedicated team formed separately by the Changwon Facilities Corporation, and that measures to prevent recurrence will also be prepared.
The corporation plans to operate a private joint dedicated team consisting of 12 members, including civic groups, experts, and public officials, starting from the 28th.
