Liberian Officials on Business Trip Urgently Arrested on Charges of Sexual Assault Against Middle School Girls
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Two Liberian government officials on a business trip to Korea were urgently arrested by the police for sexually assaulting middle school girls.
According to the Dongbu Police Station in Busan on the 23rd, around 11 p.m. on the 22nd, Mr. A, a man in his 50s from Liberia, and Mr. B, a man in his 30s, were urgently arrested on charges of sexually assaulting minors at a hotel in Dong-gu, Busan.
According to the police, Mr. A and Mr. B lured two middle school girls they happened to meet at a subway station to the hotel where they were staying, gave them alcohol, and then sexually assaulted them.
The police responded to a report from an acquaintance of the victims, and Mr. A and Mr. B held the hotel room door for about 10 minutes, refusing to open it.
While struggling with them, the police heard a woman's tearful voice from inside the room saying, "Don't hit me," and used a spare key from the hotel to open the door and enter, arresting them in the act.
Mr. A is a senior government official from Liberia, and Mr. B is a diplomat who came to Busan to participate in a training program hosted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Both are currently refusing to testify, claiming diplomatic immunity and requesting embassy staff to be called.
