[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that it will conduct an emergency inspection related to the swimming pool at Buk-myeon Gamgye Welfare Center where larvae were found.
According to the city, around 1 p.m. on the 20th, 25 larvae were discovered by a guide at the Gamgye Welfare Center swimming pool managed by the affiliated Facilities Corporation.
The welfare center reportedly concealed the fact without reporting it to the city and only carried out its own larva removal work for two days until the 21st.
On the 22nd, around 2:30 p.m., the center requested the Chilseo Water Quality Research Center to verify the presence of larvae and closed the swimming pool from 4 p.m.
The Facilities Corporation manager reported the larva occurrence by phone to the relevant director at City Hall around 4:13 p.m., and the director reported the matter to the mayor around 4:30 p.m.
According to city officials, the Gamgye Welfare Center swimming pool is supplied with riverbank filtered water from the Daesan Water Purification Plant through the Buk-myeon water reservoir.
An official explained, “Riverbank filtered water is known to be relatively safe as larvae and similar contaminants cannot access it.”
Changwon City has launched an emergency inspection to find the exact cause of this larva occurrence.
To determine whether the water supplied to apartments and other places for drinking is contaminated, the inflow and outflow points of the Buk-myeon water reservoir and faucets at about 10 households will be inspected on the night of the 22nd.

A city official said, “We plan to investigate all possibilities, including whether the larvae originated from the Buk-myeon water reservoir or if the welfare center’s own water tank was contaminated,” and added, “Residents living in the Buk-myeon area are urged to report immediately if they notice any suspicious larva-like substances in their homes.”
