View original image[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 22nd that construction of five stations in the second phase of the Icheon~Mungyeong railway construction project will begin this month.
The Icheon~Mungyeong railway construction project is primarily focused on establishing a 93.2 km railway section from Icheon to Mungyeong with an investment of 2.518 trillion KRW.
Among them, the first phase section from Icheon to Chungju (54.0 km) was opened in December last year. While proceeding with the second phase section from Chungju to Mungyeong (39.2 km), the Rail Network Authority plans to start construction of five stations in this section this month and complete them by 2024.
The newly constructed stations will include Chungju Station. Chungju Station will be newly built as a four-story above-ground building after demolishing the existing station, and a temporary station will be installed and operated until completion.
The other four stations will be located respectively in Salmi-myeon and Suanbo-myeon of Chungju-si, Chungbuk, Yeonpung-myeon of Goesan-gun, Chungbuk, and Mungyeong-eup, Mungyeong-si, Gyeongbuk. The station names will be finalized later through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Station Naming Review Committee.
