Professor Lee Geon-ho of Chosun University awarded 'Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation' at Dementia Overcoming Day event
Recognition for Contributions to Medical Care and Management of Dementia Patients
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Professor Lee Geonho of the Department of Biomedical Science at Chosun University (Director of the Gwangju Dementia Cohort Research Group) received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare at the 15th Dementia Overcoming Day commemorative event.
According to Chosun University on the 21st, Professor Lee was recognized for his contributions to the medical care and management of dementia patients at the 15th Dementia Overcoming Day event held at the COEX Conference Room in Seoul.
Since 2013, Professor Lee has been conducting a long-term follow-up study on elderly people in the Gwangju area through the Gwangju Dementia Cohort Research Group, identifying causes of dementia onset.
He has conducted detailed dementia-related examinations on about 10,000 people before dementia symptoms appeared, accumulating multidimensional data such as genomic test results, cognitive function tests, and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data, and has been conducting long-term follow-up research.
Professor Lee said, “I will focus more on dementia prevention, including developing health functional foods that prevent dementia,” and added, “The Gwangju Dementia Cohort Research Group will do its best to establish itself as a dementia prevention platform.”
Meanwhile, the Chosun University Gwangju Dementia Cohort Research Group is a national dementia research group established in 2013 with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT, aiming to prevent dementia onset through the development of early dementia prediction technology.

In response to the rapid increase in dementia patients due to the advent of a super-aged society and the explosive rise in related social costs, the research project is being conducted with the goal of building a dementia prediction brain map and establishing early diagnosis methods.
