'Seoul Safe Madang' Held at Yeouido Park Until the 24th
Children's Hero Costume Contest, Fire Truck Pulling Competition, and More Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 22nd that various citizen participation programs will be held at the ‘2022 Seoul Safety Festival’ event, which runs until the 24th.
Held at Yeouido Park for the first time in three years, the Seoul Safety Festival is designed to raise citizens' safety awareness while providing fun through unique programs taking place throughout the venue.
On the first day of the event, the 22nd, the ‘Children’s Hero Costume Contest’ will be held as a corner for growing children who will be the future leaders. Through this costume contest, children dressed as various hero characters will showcase their unique personalities on stage.
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters will select children who excellently perform hero makeup and costumes in the contest. In addition, puppet shows, character parades, and photo time will provide enjoyable memories for the children participating in the event. Children who won awards at this year’s Seoul 119 Fire Song Contest are invited to this contest, and children visiting the Safety Festival venue on the day can also participate.
The fire truck pulling competition held on the 23rd to raise awareness of the importance of ‘making way for fire trucks’ is also an event attracting citizens’ attention. Sixteen active firefighters will participate, competing to see who can pull an 11-ton fire truck the farthest distance with their bare hands within a set time.
The ‘Strong Challenge,’ which citizens can directly participate in, will also be held. It consists of three events linking firefighting activities and strength exercises: hose bowling, battle rope, and Annie squat. Anyone aged 13 or older can participate. At the safety pledge ceremony held before the fire truck pulling competition, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon will award commendations to citizen heroes who rescued neighbors from flooded houses during the heavy rain on August 8. Various figures from all walks of life, including the 119 Youth Corps and volunteer firefighters, will attend this event.
On the last day of the event, the 24th, the ‘Youth Disaster Site Robot Competition’ will be held at the robot competition hall within the venue. Youths who will lead the future will build and compete with robots increasingly used at disaster sites, showcasing the skills they have accumulated.
Additionally, more than 70 safety experience programs will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the venue, along with unique fire truck photo zones, Safety Golden Bell, fire safety NFT issuance events, and various performances and citizen participation events.
