Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Selected for Regional Specialized Visa Pilot Project Competition
Attracting Top Talent, Expecting Revitalization of Local Economy
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Goseong-gun in Gyeongnam has been finally selected for the Ministry of Justice’s public contest project, the ‘Regional Specialized Visa Pilot Project,’ targeting 89 local governments in population-declining areas.
Goseong-gun was the only area selected in Gyeongnam Province, and the county actively built cooperative relationships with related departments and nearby universities to secure the selection.
Starting with the project selection, the county plans to revitalize the region by matching excellent foreign students who have completed related education at universities with local companies.
The main content aims to secure local talent and promote national balanced development by granting visa exceptions to foreigners needed in the region on the condition of mandatory residence and employment for a certain period, and, in the long term, inducing settlement in the local community to stimulate regional economic activities.
Additionally, to enable outstanding talents such as foreign students to continue living and working in Goseong, the county plans to support various policies through establishing a foreigner settlement support plan to promote harmony and communication with local residents.

County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “Through this pilot project, a path has opened for excellent foreign talents to reside and work in Goseong-gun for five years, not just a limited stay period,” and added, “Though a small change, we will use this as a stepping stone to expand the living population and make Goseong a vibrant and attractive place.”
