Kim Eun-hye, Chief of Public Relations, stated at the press center set up in London, UK, that President Yoon attended the reception hosted by King Charles III from 6 PM for one hour and said, "We will never forget Queen Elizabeth II, who devoted her life as a guardian of freedom and peace," she conveyed.
Chief Kim also explained that President Yoon conveyed to King Charles III that the people of the Republic of Korea share in this sorrow.
President Yoon also congratulated King Charles III on his accession to the throne. In response, King Charles III said, "I express my deep gratitude for coming all the way to this distant place." He also expressed thanks, saying, "I will not forget the special feelings the Korean people have shown for Queen Elizabeth II."
Furthermore, Chief Kim conveyed that "King Charles III seemed to have known in advance about President Yoon's decision to change his tour schedule to visit the UK for condolence."
King Charles III introduced members of the royal family one by one to President Yoon and his wife, including Queen Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince William, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and they exchanged greetings.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, told President Yoon, "I have never been to Korea, so if invited, I would like to visit someday."
King Charles III also mentioned, "I visited Korea in 1992, but it has been too long, so I hope I will have the opportunity to go again." President Yoon responded, "You are always welcome."
The reception was attended by numerous heads of state and royal families from around the world, including U.S. President Joe Biden, Emperor Naruhito of Japan, and King Felipe VI of Spain.
