The Rail Network Authority announced on the 16th that it will promote the construction of Muan International Airport Station as part of the second phase of the Honam High-Speed Railway project (Gomakwon~Mokpo 44.6 km).
Muan International Airport Station is the only station among regional airports nationwide that connects to the high-speed railway, with an opening targeted for 2025.
The Rail Network Authority plans to build the station as an underground station (4 floors). In particular, by applying a ground and underground integrated 2-way transfer system, it will install a ground transfer bridge directly connecting the departure hall and parking lot, and an underground transfer passage that does not overlap with ground traffic flow, thereby enhancing the connectivity between the airport and the railway.
The daily demand for Muan International Airport Station is expected to reach 1,000 passengers, and the Rail Network Authority anticipates that once the Honam High-Speed Railway opens, it will contribute to the function of Muan International Airport as a southwestern regional international hub airport and to the revitalization of the local economy.
The second phase of the Honam High-Speed Railway project focuses on connecting Gwangju Songjeong to Mokpo via Muan International Airport. The total project cost to be invested in this project is 2.53 trillion KRW.

Kim Han-young, Director of the Rail Network Authority, said, “Muan International Airport Station is the only station where the high-speed railway and the airport are directly connected, expanding the usage range not only to the southern metropolitan area but also to Yeongnam and the eastern part of Jeonnam.” He added, “The Rail Network Authority will thoroughly ensure safety and fair management to do its best so that Muan International Airport Station can be completed on schedule.”
