[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Typhoon Nanmadol, the 14th typhoon of the season, is expected to make landfall on Kyushu, Japan, on the 19th and pass through the Japanese archipelago.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 15th, Typhoon Nanmadol developed into a typhoon at 3 a.m. the previous day and as of 3 a.m. is moving northwest about 1,260 km southeast of Okinawa. The current central pressure is 985 hPa, and the maximum wind speed near the center is 27 m/s. It is forecasted to move north past 30 degrees north latitude on the afternoon of the 16th and reach about 440 km east of Okinawa, Japan, by 3 a.m. on the 17th.
Although there were predictions that Typhoon Nanmadol might pass over Korea, it is now more likely to shift eastward and pass over land from the Kyushu coast toward Osaka.
Nanmadol is expected to make landfall about 330 km northeast of Okinawa at 3 a.m. on the 18th, then move northward before turning eastward over land about 140 km northwest of Kagoshima at 3 a.m. on the 19th, making landfall on the Japanese archipelago. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts it will reach about 160 km northwest of Osaka on land by 3 a.m. on the 20th.
The central pressure of the typhoon is expected to deepen to 955?965 hPa on the 18th and 19th as it approaches the Japanese archipelago, with maximum wind speeds of 37 m/s and a strength classified as "strong."
On the 18th and 19th, as the typhoon moves northeast, Jeju Island and the southern coast of Korea are expected to experience direct impacts from the typhoon, including rain and strong winds. Around 3 a.m. on the 19th, areas such as east Jeju, Seogwipo, and Busan will be within the typhoon's strong wind radius, experiencing winds exceeding 15 m/s.

According to the medium-term forecast, rain is expected in Jeju until the morning of the 18th and 19th, in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam until the afternoon of the 19th, and in Daegu and Gyeongbuk until the morning of the 19th. From the 18th to the 20th, waves of 2 to 6 meters are expected in the East Sea, with waves exceeding 8 meters anticipated in the southern East Sea, eastern South Sea, and waters around Jeju Island.
