In the medical community, the 'My Ingredients Campaign' has been launched to promote safe botulinum toxin use, and the 'Botulinum Toxin Consumer Bill of Rights,' which consumers should check before selecting a toxin, has been announced to enhance the right to know.
On the 14th, the Korean Society of Cosmetic Dermatology held a press conference at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, to announce the results of a survey on this topic. The society conducted a consumer awareness survey targeting 1,000 individuals aged 20 to 45 who have experience with toxin procedures. The survey found that the most important factor in choosing a toxin product was safety (83.3%).
Following that were effectiveness and duration (65.6%), price (55.8%), hospital recommendation (20.7%), and manufacturing process and ingredients (18%). Notably, the response rate for 'brand awareness' rose to 30.7% compared to previous surveys. In a 2017 survey, the order was safety (75.6%), effectiveness (72.9%), price (45.4%), originality (17%), and brand awareness (7%).
Also, since safety is highly valued, nearly half (49.5%) answered that they feel anxious when there is insufficient information about the procedure product. Among those who reported feeling anxious, 72.6% cited 'uncertainty about whether the product is safe' as the reason, while 58.4% worried 'it might not be genuine or could be an already opened product,' and 27.2% were concerned about 'whether the price is reasonable,' revealing consumers' unmet demand for safety information regarding procedure products.

However, over the past 6 to 7 years, various issues have arisen regarding the source of strains and quality control of the main ingredients in botulinum toxin products, expanding public interest to safety, resistance, and further to differences between products and ingredient information.”
Furthermore, consumers expressed willingness to actively accept broad product information for safe toxin procedures. If directly related to the safety of toxin products, 86.4% responded that they want hospitals to provide guidance on the manufacturing process and ingredients of the procedure products.
Since 2017, the Korean Society of Cosmetic Dermatology has been steadily conducting consumer awareness improvement campaigns. In line with the recent survey results, they planned the 'My Ingredients Campaign' to enhance toxin consumers' right to know and, after discussions with an expert advisory group, publicly released the 'Botulinum Toxin Consumer Bill of Rights' containing essential points consumers must verify for safe toxin procedures.
