[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun (Governor Kang Jongman) announced on the 14th that it will conduct a 'Visiting Elderly Low Vision Prevention Education' for 30 pre-registered elderly people in cooperation with the Korea Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness on the 22nd at the 3rd floor of the Health Education Center in the Public Health Center.
The elderly low vision prevention education aims to correct common misconceptions about age-related eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma that cause low vision, provide education on symptoms and prevention methods related to chronic diseases and causes of low vision, and conduct self-tests for macular degeneration and vision tests to identify elderly people who require surgery early and provide professional counseling.
A public health center official said, "The elderly low vision prevention education will help protect the eye health of the residents and maintain their quality of life in old age," and added, "We hope residents who need financial support for early diagnosis of cataracts and prevention of blindness will apply."
For more details, please contact the Visiting Health Team at the Public Health Center.
Meanwhile, the county is promoting a cataract medical expense support project for basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty class residents aged 60 or older in the area to prevent blindness and reduce medical expenses.
