Gwangyang City Supports Sister City Pohang with Typhoon Damage Recovery Personnel and Supplies
Priority Support for Essential Goods Such as Water Pumps, Bottled Water, and Ramen
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do will provide recovery personnel and supplies to Pohang City, which suffered extensive damage such as river flooding and landslides due to strong winds and heavy rain from Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon.
The city will first support 11 water pumps, bottled water worth 10 million KRW, instant noodles, and other daily necessities, and plans to dispatch about 50 volunteers from local volunteer organizations to the site on September 13, after the Chuseok holiday, to assist with recovery efforts.
Jung In-hwa, mayor of Gwangyang City, said, "I extend my deepest condolences to the citizens of Pohang and the disaster victims who suffered great damage from this typhoon, as well as to the Pohang Steelworks personnel," adding, "Gwangyang City will do its best to support manpower and equipment so that typhoon damage recovery, relief for disaster victims, and normalization of Pohang Steelworks can be carried out swiftly."
Meanwhile, the city has been sister cities with Pohang since 1997 and has engaged in various exchanges in cultural and sports fields. It also provided donations for earthquake damage in 2017 and supported plum extract for overcoming COVID-19 in 2020.
