On the Day the Emergency Committee Was Confirmed... Lee Jun-seok Files Main Lawsuit for the 3rd and 4th Injunctions
[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun and Kwon Hyun-ji] Former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok, who has been pursuing legal action against the party, filed the main lawsuit for the 3rd and 4th provisional injunctions on the 13th. He will also appear in person at the provisional injunction hearing scheduled for the 14th.
Lee Jun-seok's legal team stated in a press release on the 13th, "Lee will appear in person at the hearing at 11 a.m. tomorrow to give testimony."
On the same day, the former leader also filed the main lawsuit regarding the 3rd and 4th provisional injunctions. The contents of these injunctions include ▲prohibition of holding the National Committee meeting for party constitution amendments ▲installation of a new emergency committee ▲nullification of the resolution appointing Jeong Jin-seok as the emergency committee chairman.
The legal team said, "We request that the People Power Party immediately stop the ruinous regional (Honam) disparagement remarks against the court, outdated color attacks, personal attacks such as calling judges political, and intimidation such as telling us not to cross the line, and approach the trial with humility and a reflective attitude."
Among these, the remark "do not cross the line" refers to Emergency Committee Chairman Jeong Jin-seok's statement on the morning commute that day: "If the line of judicial restraint is crossed and judicial restraint is not maintained, very worrisome events will occur. Ultimately, the court would dominate politics." He added, "It is desirable not to excessively intervene in decisions autonomously made within the party." This is interpreted as clearly signaling his intention to continue the legal battle while opposing the new emergency committee.
Regarding the People Power Party's consideration of a request to postpone the provisional injunction hearing, the legal team emphasized, "The main issues of this case have already been disclosed to the media, and documents could have been collected from the court during the Chuseok holiday. Therefore, the hearing should proceed as scheduled."
