Japan Reviews Visa Exemption and Individual Travel Permission for Foreign Tourists
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] Japan is considering visa exemptions and allowing individual travel for foreign tourists. The Japanese government is reportedly reviewing the resumption of visa exemptions to increase the number of foreign tourists.
On the 11th, Cabinet Secretary Seiji Kihara appeared on a program of the private broadcaster Fuji TV and stated that they are considering lifting the daily entry cap of 50,000 people related to COVID-19 entry restrictions.
Deputy Minister Kihara also mentioned visa exemptions for tourists and allowing individual travel, saying, "We will definitely review these relaxations."
He emphasized the need to ease entry restrictions to welcome foreign tourists, saying, "Japan has the charm of autumn and winter. It should be implemented in the not-too-distant future."
The Japanese government increased the daily entry cap from 20,000 to 50,000 starting from the 7th and allowed package tours without accompanying guides.
