Seoul City to Select and Manage 'Outstanding Skilled Technicians'... About 50 Master Technicians to Be Selected
Selected Small Business Owners Contributing to the Advancement of Skilled Techniques in Garment Sewing, Machinery Metal, Printing, Jewelry, and Handmade Shoes Urban Manufacturing Industries
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 12th that starting this year, it will identify ‘Seoul’s Master Technicians’ who have contributed to the advancement of skilled technology in urban manufacturing sectors such as garment sewing, jewelry, and printing, to sustain the legacy of urban manufacturing and invite them as ‘on-site teachers’ to educate young talents.
The city plans to select and manage ‘Outstanding Skilled Technicians’ who have contributed to the development of technology in a specific field, as many industries are expected to face technological discontinuity due to the aging of highly skilled technicians and the lack of new talent inflow, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturing.
The recruitment fields include 21 occupations across five sectors: garment sewing, machinery and metal, printing, jewelry, and handmade shoes (including bags). Up to 50 individuals will be selected across these five sectors. Those selected as ‘Outstanding Skilled Technicians,’ recognized as masters in their respective fields, will receive a certificate and a plaque, as well as a technology development incentive of 1 million KRW. They will also serve as instructors sharing vivid on-site experience and technical know-how in training courses at technology education centers related to urban manufacturing.
Applicants must have worked in the same field and occupation in the industrial site for more than 15 years, and as of the announcement date, must have resided in Seoul for over three years or have their workplace located in Seoul. Additionally, applicants must not have been previously selected as the top master in the same field or as a Korea Master Craftsman.
The recommending authority is the district mayor, and related forms can be downloaded from the Seoul City website ⇒ Seoul News ⇒ Notices and Announcements ⇒ 2022 Seoul Outstanding Skilled Technician Recruitment. The announcement can be viewed on the Seoul Metropolitan Government website starting from the 13th.
Recommendation documents can be submitted in person or by mail. For more details, search ‘Seoul Outstanding Skilled Technician’ on the Seoul City website or contact the Beauty and Fashion Industry Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Meanwhile, to enhance manufacturing competitiveness, Seoul City operates ‘Seoul Solution Anchors’ at seven locations within the city. It is also promoting projects to improve poor working conditions in manufacturing sites such as risks of fire and other disasters, dust, dark spaces, and substandard workplaces, as well as worker health management and management support through professional consulting.
