'Low-Income Work-Study Program' in Accompanying the Vulnerable, 'Sub-character Development Project' for Future Competency Enhancement
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The showdown of policy ideas by youth aspiring to become the ‘Youth Mayor of Seoul’ will take place on the 22nd.
On the 12th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold the finals of the '2022 Seoul Youth Policy Contest, I am the Youth Mayor of Seoul,' which is being conducted to diversify channels for youth policy participation. The finals will be held in the form of a policy showcase where policy ideas are presented in front of citizens.
Starting in July, this contest was conducted in a new format where ideas were proposed through short videos within 59 seconds, called ‘short-form,’ on three themes: ▲ Accompanying the vulnerable ▲ Strengthening future capabilities ▲ Policies felt in daily life. As a result, 356 policy ideas were submitted in innovative formats such as rap, theater, songs, and corporate presentations. After judging the short-form videos, presentations, and discussions, three teams advancing to the finals were confirmed.
In the field of accompanying the vulnerable, the idea of a ‘work-study scholarship system connecting low-income university students and low-income students to resolve educational opportunity inequality’ advanced to the finals. In the future capability strengthening category, the ‘Sub-character Growth Project providing stability and development opportunities for youth life’ was selected as a finalist idea. Lastly, in the daily life policy category, the idea of ‘supporting paper furniture transactions for single-person household youth’ was finally selected for the finals. The three finalist teams began preparing for the finals based on the evaluation results from previous rounds. From the 5th to the 12th, advisory sessions with related department officials and expert mentoring will also be conducted.
The finals will involve Mayor Oh Se-hoon, five professional judges, and 25 audience evaluators who will assess the feasibility of the policy ideas. The final winning team will receive a prize of 10 million won and a certificate, as well as the opportunity to participate as a ‘Special Advisor on Seoul Youth Policy’ in reviewing and advising on Seoul’s youth policies. The team leader of the final winning team is planned to be recommended as the Honorary Youth Mayor of Seoul.
