Gwangju Nam-gu, Neighborhood Walking Challenge and Walking King Selection
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will officially operate the mobile walking platform ‘WalkOn’ to promote residents' health through the habitual practice of walking exercises.
In particular, each month, courses such as the Pureun-gil walking trail and the Yangnim-dong stamp tour will be selected, and the resident who takes the most steps will be chosen as the Walking King.
On the 7th, Nam-gu announced, “We are promoting the WalkOn project using a big data-based mobile platform to encourage residents to practice walking exercises in their daily lives and improve their health,” and “We will hold a WalkOn membership event throughout September.”
Various challenges will also be held through the WalkOn app, and the Walking King will be selected monthly based on the standard number of steps by group.
The newly introduced WalkOn program is a mobile platform that encourages physical activities including walking, changes participants' lifestyles, and helps manage underlying conditions such as obesity, depression, and hypertension.
The number of steps and walking time are automatically recorded, and participants can receive gifts upon achieving health and goal milestones through walking challenges.
Nam-gu will hold a WalkOn membership event until the end of this month, selecting 400 participants by lottery to receive a 5,000 KRW mobile gift certificate.
Additionally, during September, two challenges?‘Yangnim-dong Stamp Tour’ and ‘Walking Along Pureun-gil’?will be prepared, and the first 100 residents who complete each course will receive a 5,000 KRW mobile gift certificate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Residents who wish to participate in the WalkOn events and challenges can download the related app from the smartphone App Store or Play Store, sign up as members, then search for ‘Gwangju Nam-gu’ in the community tab and join the ‘Walking All Around Nam-gu’ community.
A Nam-gu official stated, “We will use the mobile platform, which allows free participation without time and space constraints, to improve residents' health, continuously discover walking courses, and operate various challenges.”

Meanwhile, to activate detailed neighborhood groups within the WalkOn Nam-gu community, starting in October, walking challenges will be held on walking courses such as Nodae-dong Pulbit Neighborhood Park Road and the Green Nam-gu Belt Road near Pochungsa Temple.
