On this day, Mayor Kim Jang-ho explained the necessity and justification for the designation of a "semiconductor specialized complex" and requested the interest and participation of semiconductor companies, who in turn promised active support.
They agreed to establish the "Gumi Semiconductor Industry Promotion Committee" to create a permanent consultation channel for frequent communication between the public and private sectors.
The city is the only non-capital region city with a complete semiconductor supply chain from raw materials and parts to demand companies (housing 123 semiconductor-related companies). It enables rapid large-scale investment utilizing the Gumi National Industrial Complex 5 (Phase 2), and is equipped with abundant industrial water essential for semiconductor production (daily supply of 43,000㎥, operating rate 23%) and stable power supply (energy center under construction in the 5th industrial complex, '23~'25).
Located in the center of the country and 20 minutes from the planned integrated new airport site, it also secures logistics competitiveness.
Through cooperation and solidarity among industry, academia, and research institutes, it is developing core technologies in the "next-generation semiconductor field" and securing a semiconductor growth foundation by strengthening workforce training and management.
Geumo University of Technology established a semiconductor systems major within the Department of Electronic Engineering this year and plans to train about 40 semiconductor design specialists annually with 34 semiconductor companies by 2024.
Through an agreement with SK Siltron, they are jointly participating in industry-academia-research cooperation projects and semiconductor research and development tasks, continuously expanding semiconductor industry infrastructure such as "high-purity industrial water (ultrapure water) demonstration plant construction," "software-based intelligent SoC modular support," "artificial graphite testbed for semiconductor and secondary battery parts," "hologram-based measurement and inspection demonstration project," and "semiconductor convergence parts innovative manufacturing platform construction."
With the full enforcement of the "National Advanced Strategic Industry" law on August 4, the government plans to designate "national advanced strategic technologies" between September and October according to the law, announce procedures and requirements for designating specialized complexes and specialized universities, and support investment and workforce in advanced industries.
On August 11, the city launched an "industrial policy consultative body" based on industry-academia-research cooperation and formed a semiconductor working council to actively respond to the designation of a semiconductor specialized complex.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, "If designated as a semiconductor specialized complex, comprehensive support including tax benefits, deregulation, and semiconductor professional workforce training will become possible. As the semiconductor industry enters an era of competition between companies supported by proactive industrial policies and alliances between companies and the government, we will ensure that full support follows through the designation of the specialized complex." He asked for much interest and support.
