[Asia Economy Reporter Han Yeju] LG Electronics is expanding the 'customer experience enjoyed on smart TVs' by launching a new NFT (Non-Fungible Token) art trading platform.
LG Electronics announced on the 5th that it has launched the 'LG Art Lab' service, which allows users to conveniently enjoy NFT artworks from viewing to trading. It is available on LG smart TVs released since 2020 (models equipped with webOS 5.0 or higher), as well as on PCs and smartphones.
LG Art Lab regularly introduces new NFT artworks recommended by experts. On the TV, users can easily purchase artworks via their smartphones by using a QR code within the dedicated app. Purchased NFT artworks can be viewed anytime on the home TV screen or registered for sale in the LG Art Lab marketplace.
The first NFT artwork to be unveiled this month on LG Art Lab is a piece by artist Barry x Ball, showcased recently at Frieze, one of the world's top three art fairs held in Seoul.
LG Art Lab is based on the blockchain platform Hedera and Wallypto, an independent cryptocurrency wallet developed by LG Electronics. Since 2020, LG Electronics has participated in Hedera's governing council to research advanced blockchain technologies and is conducting related projects through partnerships with leading global universities.
Through this Art Lab service, LG Electronics plans to provide customers with a differentiated experience beyond ordinary TVs by adding the new experience of trading artworks to enjoying high-definition art viewing on TV.
