Professor Shin Yong-sam of Seoul St. Mary's Hospital Elected President of the 2026 WFITN Conference by the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Catholic University Seoul St. Mary's Hospital announced on the 2nd that Professor Shin Yong-sam of the Department of Neurosurgery will serve as the president of the 2026 WFITN (World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology) conference.
The World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology is a global society established in 1990 to advance non-invasive interventional treatment and neuroradiology. Held every two years, WFITN is the world's largest event related to neurointerventional treatment, with over 1,400 brain and nerve specialists, including neurosurgeons and radiologists, from 40 countries participating.
Professor Shin, who was appointed as a director at the recent WFITN conference held in Kyoto, Japan, successfully attracted the 2026 WFITN conference to Busan, enhancing the status of Korea's neurointerventional treatment field.

Professor Shin has been actively involved in extensive academic activities both domestically and internationally, serving as the inaugural director of the Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Hospital at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, academic director of the Korean Neurosurgical Society, executive committee member of the Korean Society of Cerebrovascular Surgery, and general director and president of the Korean Society of Neuroendovascular Therapy. He is especially known as a world-renowned authority in cerebrovascular surgery and interventional procedures, having treated 6,000 cases of cerebral aneurysm patients.
