View original image[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] “We will pioneer the path of the next 100 years on the 68-year history that the university has walked.” On the 1st, Mokwon University President Lee Hee-hak (photo) made this statement upon his inauguration as the ‘10th President.’
At the inauguration and farewell thanksgiving service on the same day, President Lee presented the slogan “From Daejeon’s first private university to the strongest innovative university in the central region” and also outlined the vision for the future campus.
First, President Lee announced the introduction of modular major education. By adding a modular curriculum to the existing major convergence bachelor’s structure, such as the ‘Microdegree (credit-based degree system)’ program that allows completion of minimum credits in a short period, Mokwon University aims to enhance the competitiveness of each student.
The modular curriculum is a system that breaks down the walls between majors, enabling students to complete courses according to their aptitude and career path.
He also presented a blueprint to strengthen students’ employment capabilities through student-centered liberal arts and extracurricular education innovation. This includes restructuring liberal arts courses based on student interests and levels, and strengthening extracurricular education to improve core student competencies.
In particular, he expressed his determination to enhance the university’s competitiveness through the advancement of Mokwon University’s strength in cultural and artistic convergence specialization, activation and diversification of global networks, and strengthening win-win cooperation programs with the local community.
President Lee said, “I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as I take on the presidency at a time when many pending issues need to be resolved,” and added, “During my term, I will strive to be a catalyst in laying the foundation for the university’s new leap and a better future.”
Meanwhile, since being appointed as a professor in the Department of Theology at Mokwon University in 2000, President Lee has held key positions such as Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for External Cooperation, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of the College of Theology, Director of International Cooperation, Director of the International Education Center, Dean of the Graduate School of Theology, and Chairman of the University Development Council.
Externally, he has served as President of the Korean Old Testament Society, Vice President of the World Multicultural Education Society, Research and Editorial Committee Member of the Korean Bible Society’s Biblical Text Research, and Auditor of the Korean Christian Studies Association.
