Hanchang to Hold Completion Ceremony Next Month for Pyrolysis and Hydrogenation Plant for Waste Plastic at Jindo Factory
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Hanchang announced on the 31st that it plans to hold a completion ceremony in September for the pyrolysis and chemical recycling plant for waste plastics being established in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do.
The waste plastic chemical recycling facility being established by Hanchang is attracting attention as it can achieve 100% recycling not only of waste plastics generated on land but also marine waste such as discarded fishing nets and fishing gear.
On the 30th, the Ministry of Environment announced that it will publicly notify for 40 days a partial amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Framework Act on Resource Circulation, which significantly relaxes the exemption criteria for waste regulations that can be recognized as circulating resources starting August 31. The amendment aims to implement proactive administrative measures to expand the types of recycled materials including pyrolysis oil from waste plastics and captured carbon dioxide before the revision of the Enforcement Rules of the Waste Management Act.
Through this, pyrolysis oil produced from waste plastics will be used as raw materials for petrochemical products such as naphtha and diesel instead of crude oil, enabling the production of various plastic products. While the Ministry of Environment is actively promoting the activation of pyrolysis oil from waste plastics, Hanchang has begun the finalization work for the establishment of the Jindo pyrolysis chemical recycling plant capable of recycling everything from waste plastics to marine waste.
Hanchang plans to hold the completion ceremony for the Jindo plant on September 29. Once the Jindo plant is fully operational, it will be able to process approximately 3,000 tons of waste annually.
