View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyul] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education is recruiting 100 classes on a first-come, first-served basis from elementary, middle, and high schools in the province for the ‘Carbon Neutral Practice Class’ following ‘Carbon Neutral Green School Development’ and ‘Carbon Neutral Pilot Schools’ to promote ecological transition education until September 7.
The Carbon Neutral Practice Class program subdivides the existing school-level carbon neutral projects into class-level operations, and selected classes will receive approximately 500,000 KRW in operating expenses.
The Carbon Neutral Practice Classes submit applications containing practice-centered ecological transition education programs and carbon neutral practice plans tailored to their class circumstances. Selected classes proceed through voluntary student participation and decision-making processes based on class autonomy, from selecting tasks through discussions to implementation, to build consensus on carbon neutrality and climate crisis response.
Through this, it is expected that democratic citizenship and community spirit can be cultivated, and sustainable tasks that can spread to homes and schools can be carried out, thereby increasing participation and satisfaction in carbon neutral practices.

Kim Hyungwang, Director of Policy Innovation, said, “We hope that by sharing excellent practice cases suitable for various scales and conditions such as class, grade, and school, the seriousness of climate change will be recognized, and a culture of carbon neutral practice responding to the climate crisis will spread so that future generations of students can act responsibly toward the environment and life.”
