Currently, the Emergency Response Committee is temporarily chaired by Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong. Although Floor Leader Kwon stated that he would decide on his position after the formation of the new committee, strong calls for accountability against him both inside and outside the party suggest that the formation of the new committee may face difficulties.
Park Jeong-ha, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said after the Emergency Response Committee meeting on the 29th, "After gathering the opinions of the committee members, it was unanimously decided that Floor Leader Kwon will temporarily serve as acting chair until the new committee is launched." Regardless of legal controversies, there must be a group responsible within the party, making the current committee's operation inevitable.
Floor Leader Kwon, who is acting as the interim chair, explained at the meeting, "The party's crisis must be resolved with the launch of the new Emergency Response Committee," adding, "We will do our best to expedite the process so that the new committee can be launched before Chuseok."
The Emergency Response Committee plans to begin revising the party constitution and regulations and to convene the Standing National Committee and the National Committee. It is reported that the party secretariat briefed the committee on the procedures for amending the party constitution and regulations and the formation of the new committee during the meeting. The party constitution and regulations amendment general assembly is scheduled for the 30th.
Controversy over Floor Leader Kwon's position continued. He said on the day, "I will decide on my position as floor leader myself after the new Emergency Response Committee is formed." This is interpreted as a response to the growing calls for accountability amid internal party turmoil. He also hinted at resignation, saying, "I have never been attached to my position. During the last presidential election, I resigned as secretary-general for the candidate's victory. If I had been attached to the position, I could have demanded participation in the transition committee or the cabinet as a key contributor to the election, but I gave up early."

On the same day, lawmakers Yoon Sang-hyun, Yoo Ui-dong, and Choi Jae-hyung held a press conference at the National Assembly, stating, "We hope Floor Leader Kwon will open the way for the party's swift normalization by resigning voluntarily," and emphasized, "He should withdraw his stance on maintaining the Emergency Response Committee and promptly and accurately remedy the flaws by electing a new floor leader according to the party constitution and regulations, who will serve as acting party leader."
