'7.6 Trillion Won' Domestic Weapons to Poland... K-2 Tank and K-9 Self-Propelled Howitzer
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] A final contract has been signed for the export of domestically produced premium weapons to Poland.
Hyundai Rotem and Hanwha Defense signed the first implementation contract worth $5.76 billion (approximately 7.678 trillion KRW) with the Polish Armaments Agency on the 26th (local time) for the export of K2 Black Panther tanks and K-9 self-propelled howitzers, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced on the 27th.
The first export quantity includes 180 K2 tanks and 212 K-9 self-propelled howitzers.
The Polish Ministry of National Defense stated on Twitter, "Hyundai Rotem will supply 180 K2 tanks from 2022 to 2025, and Hanwha Defense will supply 212 K-9 self-propelled howitzers from 2022 to 2026," adding, "The first tanks and howitzers will be delivered by the end of this year."
This contract is the first follow-up contract to implement the comprehensive master agreement signed last month on the 27th between domestic defense companies including Hyundai Rotem, Hanwha Defense, and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and the Polish Armaments Agency.
Although a significant portion of the K2 tanks and K-9 howitzers will be produced locally, so the actual scale may vary, the consensus is that the export value will be at least 10 trillion KRW.
