Naju-si Hires 10 Sanitation Workers After 2 Years
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do, has newly recruited sanitation workers for the first time in over two years.
The city announced on the 25th that it hired 10 sanitation workers through a public recruitment process revamped to prioritize fairness following the launch of the 8th local government administration.
The recruitment of sanitation workers had been on hold for more than two years since July 2020 due to controversies over unfair hiring practices last year.
To resolve the workload difficulties of existing sanitation workers caused by vacancies and to establish a fair recruitment process, the city conducted a public recruitment of sanitation workers last month based on the "Sanitation Worker Recruitment Improvement Plan" proposed by the 8th local government Naju mayoral transition committee.
According to the revised and applied recruitment criteria, the physical fitness test score was increased from 45 points to 60 points considering the nature of the work, while the interview test score was lowered from 45 points to 20 points.
To ensure objectivity in the recruitment process, a personality test worth 10 points was newly introduced, and the number of interviewers was increased from three to five.
The city selected 10 final successful candidates through a comprehensive evaluation out of 100 points, consisting of document screening (10 points), physical fitness test (60 points), personality test (10 points), and an interview test (20 points) where the highest and lowest scores were excluded and the average score was calculated.
Meanwhile, along with the sanitation workers, one administrative office worker (public employee) for the mayor’s office was also newly hired this month.
The public employee recruitment was conducted through a fair and objective hiring process prioritizing job performance ability, as a personnel supplement to accommodate an existing administrative worker preparing for childbirth and childcare.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae stated, “The recruitment of personnel in each sector under the 8th local government will strictly apply a public recruitment method that guarantees lawful procedures and fair opportunities, as well as objective recruitment criteria that the majority of citizens can agree with. We will do our best to restore the honor of Naju City, which was damaged by controversies over unfair hiring, and to establish a fair personnel system trusted by citizens.”
